Visitors are welcome
Your family and friends are welcome! Those outside your close family may see you during regular visiting hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. If they need to visit during other hours, talk to your nurse. We ask that children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult.
Visitors exposed to contagious diseases or with signs of illness are asked not to visit. Everyone should wash their hands or use the hand sanitizer located in dispensers throughout the hospital.
Family and friends from out of town
The Salem Health hospitality house, Parkview Family Lodge, may be available for family and friends who are from out of town and might not be able to afford lodging. Call the reservation line at 503-814-HOME (4663) to determine if there is availability.

Gift shop and mail
The Salem Hospital gift shop is in the Building A main lobby and is open 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Volunteers will deliver mail to patient rooms, but the gift shop does not take orders over the phone. Since some patients have latex allergies, latex balloons may not be brought into the hospital.

Intensive/critical care policies
Salem Hospital intensive care unit has waiting rooms on each floor.
The main entrance to the hospital is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. After 9 p.m. all hospital visitors must pass through the emergency room entrance.
The encouragement patients receive from visitors is important to the recovery process, so we want to be as flexible as possible with visiting hours. We must, however, balance the benefits of visitors with the patient’s need for rest.
Patient condition changes
If there is a noticeable change in the condition of a patient you are visiting, contact the patient's nurse for help. If the change is obviously serious (sudden loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing) call 2-3456 from any hospital phone. The operator will ask you to identify yourself, your location (such as room number) and patient name.
A team will be activated and arrive promptly to evaluate the patient.
